Overview of UHWC
UHWC is NGO leading Palestinian knowledge-based community healthcare organazation established in 1985, contributing to community empowerment in healthcare and promoting the comprehensive concept in the Gaza Strip. Its members are gathering a healthy vision for our slogan, "Health Service is a right to whoever needs it". UHWC is achieving community health empowerment and promoting the comprehensive healthcare concept through capacity development; primary; and tertiary healthcare; culture and health, and community health communication and advocacy programs.
Title: SOCIAL WORKER
Generic Function: GAZA - PALESTINE
Carry out all social-related activities, in order to ease the patient’s situation, to maximize his/her adherence to treatment and to improve his/her psychosocial condition.
Accountabilities:
- Identify social needs of patients through a social assessment. Respond to the patient’s social needs, according to the scope of the project, by giving direct social support (as transport, food, legal advice,…) and/or refer to other social actors, in order to actively contribute to the improvement of their quality of living.
- Contact patients to follow up the evolution of their condition when needed (home visits, defaulter tracing).
- Participate in the creation of any material needed for the activities of social workers. Take care of social services facilities, materials and equipments in order to ensure continuity.
- Mapping and regular update of social partners, local authorities, other NGOs, and governmental social services in order to improve social services scope and responsiveness.
- Keep records, statistic and files updated, reporting any social activity, in order to prioritize and develop appropriate programs or projects.
MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities
MSF Belgium has been running a surgical project in Al-Awada Hospital since 2018. By the end of 2019 an MSF Spain psycho-social support unit was integrated in IDP and OPD providing patients with different MHPSS interventions.
The social worker is expected to:
- Be part of the MHPSS team.
- Conduct proper social assessments to surgical patietns, adults and children.
- Identify and lead social referrals: GBV, Child Protection and others.
- Be the focal point towards social organizations.
- Lead different psycho-social activities in compliance with the MHPSS and HP strategy.
- Manage internal referrals.
Education:
Degree in Social Work or Human Sciences with High Diploma or Master Degree in related field.
Experience:
2 years in local or international NGO or other institutions.
